Reflections on the "Genesis" Creation Story

The creation story presented in the book of Genesis is a story I have been very familiar with my entire life, it being read to me as a small child. Although, rereading it for my Humanities class definitely was a different experience from the other times. As I read through the familiar words with a new lens I was shocked at all of the new observations I was able to make. The first thing I noticed was the order of creation. The order God chose to create everything seems very important to me. It seems to me that he created things in order of necessity. Light and darkness are created and then day and night. Next we see land and sea. The next ones I found specifically intriguing, the vegetation was created one day and the very next day the sun was created. This seems very important because the vegetation could not have lived without it.

My next main observation was that of the mindset of Adam and Eve. They had no reason to feel fear or anxiety. There was no caution as they roamed the garden and lived freely, there was no need for it. There was a freedom I do not believe people today can even comprehend. There was an innocence and naivety that we could never experience because we have been so tainted by the world we live in. This seems like the ultimate utopia to me. To not have to worry about your outside surroundings and to not have to wonder if you are being judged or not. There were no pretenses or walls between Adam and Eve. It was a pure existence.
