I also noticed that everything was very mechanical in the society and there was no variation. I could not live in a place where there was no room for growth or creativity. This bothered me immensely. It also seemed very distopic that there were no women mentioned in the "riches."

Reflections on "The New Atlantis"
In this story, I was very pleasantly surprised how the utopic aspect of it seemed to be more defined by knowledge and intellect than anything else. They were not consumed by material possessions or as much by status. There were people put into place and they were content with their places. The inventors of the time are very treasured for their contributions of knowledge. The section we read was called the Riches of Solomon's house and the riches they reference were truly all people. I think that is a beautiful concept and definitely something I would want to use in my utopia.
