Reflections on "The Island of Utopia" from "Utopia"

What stuck out to me in The Island of Utopia was the idea of seclusion that often pops up in utopic texts. The story describes the island as shaped like a crescent moon and only ships that know the way are able to reach the island due to the rocks that lie beneath the surface. This protected them from danger. There were seaports on the other side of the island but they were also hard to access. On this island was brought a good government that had no uncivilized people and they thought themselves to be superior and "beyond" the rest of mankind. I find the idea of being secluded from the rest of society with a good government to be utpoic but the fact that they thought themselves superior is not utopic to me. It indicates a mindset I would not want to be in my own utopia. I thoroughly enjoyed the livestock and crops that were very prevalent and important in their survival. I believe we should all go back to our roots.
