Reflections on The Matrix

The Matrix is a movie about a futuristic distopia. In this movie the main character, Neo, becomes aware that the human life has been reduced to a dream world. Human beings are grown and harvested and then sedated and live in a dream like state, completely unaware that they are fueling the entire world with their energy. The question for Neo is whether he wants to be aware of this devastating reality or indulge in the ultimate bliss, which is ignorance. Neo chooses to take a pill that lets him be aware and is forced to fight against the Matrix. This is such a huge distopic idea to me. Oblivion is terrifying to me. I would never want to turn a blind eye to reality to merely pretend life is good.
